Learning And Growing Together

Curriculum System

Shenzhen Enlighten International School offers a comprehensive American elite curriculum system, providing tiered education, course selection, and personalized schedules for each student.

Teaching philosophy

Shenzhen Enlighten International School (SEIS) has implemented the American public high school curriculum system, in line with its “holistic education” philosophy. In addition to standard cultural courses, Western education places greater emphasis on students’ participation in group discussions, promoting innovation, logical reasoning, and critical thinking, and focusing on developing language expression and writing skills. In American-style classrooms, the teaching methods prioritize interaction, collaborative learning, and questioning, encouraging students to engage in self-exploration and critical thinking. To enhance students’ extracurricular activities, SEIS has dedicated ample human and financial resources to establish a comprehensive system that offers various resources and platforms for sports, intellectual development, debates and public speaking, social research, music and art, and social interaction. This allows all students to participate and showcase their talents in their preferred extracurricular activities, such as forming clubs, and organizing exhibitions, competitions, and performances. Additionally, SEIS has introduced multiple awards to incentivize student participation and promote their overall development.

Curriculum Introduction

Shenzhen Enlighten International School (SEIS) follows an international education approach, using the American international curriculum system and focusing on the competitiveness of Chinese students. Through a combination of AP courses and university admission courses, it aims to establish a strong academic foundation and prepare students for admission to American universities, equipping them to become productive global citizens after graduation. The comprehensive teaching model at SEIS, featuring small class teaching with a focus on foreign teachers and Chinese teachers as support, enables students to quickly adapt to the international education model and become competitive international talents. Beyond offering AP courses and university admission courses, the school also organizes academic reports, specialized seminars, professional development tutoring in applied disciplines, as well as international competitions, study tours, and other activities. The curriculum framework includes compulsory courses, elective courses, AP courses, and guidance courses for further education, allowing students to transition from passive recipients of education to active participants and enabling them to develop their own strengths and interests.

SEIS uses English as the medium of instruction to create a strong American academic atmosphere and adopts the credit system commonly used in Western higher education. Additionally, ACT, SAT, AP, and TOEFL/IELTS exam tutoring courses are all integrated into the school curriculum, providing students with a competitive advantage in applying to American universities and eliminating the need for additional tutoring outside of school.

Credit system

Compulsory subjects: These are the courses that all students must complete in grades 9-12, and they are the primary requirement for obtaining a high school diploma and further education.

Elective subject: This refers to a specific course or group of related courses. It largely depends on the future planning needs of students (for further education), and students can choose from a variety of courses such as economics and psychology based on their own interests and future career needs. The credit system provides students with greater choices, and the combination of comprehensive and specialized aspects is the greatest embodiment of student personalization, which is the basic principle of enrollment in foreign schools.

Regular GPA: This refers to the current average score of all courses taken by students (i.e. GPA system, such as 3.9 and 4.0, rather than a percentage system), and the instructor of each course will dynamically update the score based on the comprehensive performance of the students, thereby updating the GPA accordingly. This facilitates students and parents to timely and directly follow up on their academic progress, and also conforms to the review mechanism of high school grades in most overseas universities, making it clear at a glance, avoiding too many complicated explanations.
